monkey addiction
Somehow, I came across ventriloquist Nina Conti on YouTube. Next thing you know I find 5 similar monkey puppets on ebay (vintage 1994 Hosung plush stuffed chimpanzee monkey hand puppets) and buy them cheap. Apparently there isn't much demand for them...other than me. Not sure what I was thinking other than I seem to strongly identify with the demeanor of her puppet...speaking his mind much like the way I do when I come across utter nonsense on Facebook. I often time find myself saying the things that one would ordinarily keep to themselves in polite conversation - especially when people are being so utterly stupid (oops...did I just type that out loud?). Until I can come up with a proper use for them, you will find my monkeys trying to fend off the javelina during my nightly live streams of the bunnies having dinner. 50,60,46,0,B

I would not want to do battle any javelina at night - certainly not with 5 (nor 10 times that number) of stuffed monkeys protecting me. A shotgun loaded with 00 buckshot is a much better defensive weapon. I did that one night, and we ate the dead javelina the next day - after grilling the beast over a nice bed of juniper wood coals!
Now if you could put the monkeys to work cleaning up around greenhouse, you would be doing good. Good luck with the greenhouse and safe travels tomorrow.
OK you made me look her up.
Hello John,
You really ought to check out a documentary that Nina made a few years ago, "Her Master's Voice". She visits a home for retired vent dummies in the US and takes along a few of her own for the ride.
Jeremy (UK)
Are you starting to wear them on your hand? Have you found that one is becoming a favorite? Is a conversation starting to fill those long silences? Is Chupa beginning to show signs of jealousy or unease? Have you taken one to town and introduced him/her to your friends? Loneliness can be a terrible thing if not addressed.
Thanks Jeremy...I just saw that documentary about a week ago. I think I have tracked down about everything she and monkey have appeared in. I particularly like the HBO series "Family Tree" which unfortunately only lasted one season. Her film "Make Me Happy A Monkeys Search For Happiness" was interesting as well...I loved the ending. https://youtu.be/n0qaqi3rlzY?t=56m19s
Um. The best lack all conviction, while the worst
are full of passionate intensity.
Just followed your ffirst two links John, she's hilarious. Now I'm going to look at the last one. You could take one in with you when you go to town. Like everyone does all the ankle biter yap yaps...call it your 'assistance monkey', you need it to count your change :P
Interesting... as I, too, have 5 of these little guys! Glad to see I'm not the only one. I call them my "comfort monkeys. Being a crazy fan of Nina and her Monkey, why not? I got to see her twice in April. Amazing both times!
