I checked back to see if anyone had any guesses. I actually don't have a clue. But I also have limited knowledge. Do you think you were just a bit too enigmatic?
OK JudithK...here is your assignment. There is something called "the internet" that has all the answers (even for those who don't have a clue). But you have to know how to ask the right questions. Use the power of the internet to find the answer.
You're going to use the springs from the pens to modify the shocks on the crawler.

Thank you Joel! Although I have no clue about what all that means. I am probably the least mechanically minded person who reads this blog. And truth be known, I'm OK with not knowing more about the process of modifying the shocks on the crawler.
