third fence run

Stretched the last run of fencing today.  Got some girts up on the pole barn too.  Took a break and had an ice cold Mexican Coke.  For those of you who don't know about these...they are made with real sugar - not HFCS.  Stopped by the mailboxes this morning and noticed something new.  I wonder who is counting cars going down the ranch road?  Just so you know - there is plenty of room to drive around it as I did today and will continue to do if I need to go that direction.  64,83,43,0,C,0

I guess I'm missing something. Why drive around it?

118 is a state highway, so i'm guessing you're referring to the road into Terlingua Ranch? No telling what that's about but i bet it involves money. Coke on ice quinches the thirst.

they often do traffic counts when they are considering improvements.

not at all "nefarious"

I always drive over those things. I figure "I might as well count for something". Even if it's only a traffic counter.

They're just getting a count on how many signs, lights and officers they will need to keep the road safe.

I'd go ahead and remove that and send it back to them. Tell them you're a bomb expert and disarmed it yourself.

On my dirt road (also in an arid part of the country), when folks drive around something as you're describing, an erosion gully develops. Just sayin. Cut off nose to spite face?

Like the others, I fail to understand what the point is in driving around it. All they are doing is trying to get a count of how much traffic and use that to schedule maintenance. The counter has no way to know who is doing the driving, just counts one every time something drives over it.

Also hope you don't get too upset next time it rains and those tracks you left in the soft surface erode into a wash out gully in the road

Mexican cokes are the best.

I wouldn't concern yourself too much with him driving around it. If he does, he's driving thru a parking lot for the old farm store / storage place next door. No roads will be harmed in his passing.

I hear you on the coke. That is the taste I remember from my childhood throwbacks here in the states are finally bringing that back. Not sure if coke has the throwbacks yet (pepsi does) cause as much as I like my glass bottles I am not liking the price that goes along with it. When we lived in Clint I always looked for them on sale in our local grocer in Fabens and struck when I could get the case for ten bucks.

The big Dr. Pepper conglomerate shut down the only Dr. Pepper bottling plant that still made it the old fashioned way, with real cane sugar. They couldn't stand even a little competition. Around here, people would drive for miles, down to Dublin, TX, to get a case of those real Dr. Peppers.

SAY IT ISN'T SO! No more Dublin Dr P?

Does anyone remember Canada Dry's Jamaica Cola? I really loved that stuff, but they stopped making it. At least, I've never run into it.
