real time wind map

My friend Voni Glaves posted a link to this today on Facebook.  http://hint.fm/wind/  This is a website created by artists that turns real time weather data into a compelling visualization of the directions and speeds of wind blowing across the US.  This will come in handy for my future flights.  70,76,37,0,C

If you want accurate weather data and surface analysis charts, might I recommend this free app for iPad: Foreflight Mobile: http://www.foreflight.com/ipad/

I fly with it and it's probably the most widely used method of receiving accurate real time preflight information. It will also give you the active TRFs, TAFs, winds aloft, etc. Or you can look at an artists depiction. Your choice.

The wind map is a personal art project, not associated with any company. We've done our best to make this as accurate as possible, but can't make any guarantees about the correctness of the data or our software. Please do not use the map or its data to fly a plane, sail a boat, or fight wildfires :-)

Thanks for the input Steve&justastick...I did read the disclaimer but I think it will suffice along with my own wind sock and anemometer for my first 100 flights within 5 miles of TFL at 300 - 500ft AGL. If I ever really have a question about the winds...I won't be flying anyway.
