the pit

Added 4" of TFL compost (I think there is a little bit of Benita in there) and 12" of old horse manure and hay to the pit filled with last year's container garden dirt.  Gonna water that a few times and let the good stuff soak down.  Will keep it covered and let it cook for a month before I mix it up and dish it out to this years plantings. Meanwhile - Ben and Bud are creating a wealth of compost material to be collected soon.  57,69,41,0,W,0

the day of dirt

Dumped all the dirt from last years extracted containers into a hole I just happened to have handy.  Added some compost.  Might just let this cook for awhile...yeah, I know a hole ain't the best spot to compost but the dirt had to go somewhere and the hole called out to me.  60,78,38,0,C,0

fertile fourth

VIPs coming tomorrow so on grounds keeping duty all day.  Second batch of compost done so I moved it to the square bin so I could refill the bio orb with new poop.  This is the second of two wheelbarrow loads. OBC leaves some whoppers for me.

Picked up some supplies and final bits for the courtyard decks in Alpine this morning.  Upacked the goods then went over to the Cains and loaded up on some old hay/horse manure mix from their corral.  Came back home and shoveled up a nice load of recent longhorn visitor offerings to add to my compost.  88,99,63,0,C,0

2 Dons...

Two male burros came in to keep Mr. Floppy company today.  Had two visits from Dons as well.  My buddy Don Carr from Telingua and land neighbor Donna Lu from NM.

Built up and almost filled a new compost bin - with layers of old and new cow manure, green hay, and wet cardboard.  Gave the pile a good overall watering.  Hiked another trail for Benita this morning - still no sign but had to make sure the canyon was clear - next big rain and it all washes away..  Found other signs of past life.  65,73,41,0,C

Started my day transporting my "compost" to its final resting place. All tucked in now to cook away for a year. Good night sweet prince. Since that necessary chore took till noon, I moved indoors to take advantage of some high sun battery power.

Used up the afternoon firing up my desktop computer to copy picture files onto CD so I can load them into the laptop. That took way longer than I thought it would - but now I have plenty of archival photos at my disposal if I need one to fill some space here.

Good news....I did in fact shoot a photo of the day today....tested out climbing up tower number one and it's solid as a rock. Was hoping that would be the case as I will need to get up there to attach "stuff" to them. Wished I had my video camera set up to capture the photo session - I scampered up there about eight times .....with my digital camera set to give me a 10 second head start each time in order to get into position before the exposure. That did it for me today. What did you do today?
