Raspaland

Made a new friend in Alpine today....Victor from Raspaland.  http://www.raspaland.com/  He and his wife Cristina have a fantastic little store just on the south side of the railroad tracks.  If you are coming through Alpine, make sure to check out this little gem at Murphy and 5th St.

The reason I happened to meet Victor is because I saw a flier for an Airstream trailer for sale about 2 weeks ago at the post office in Terlingua.  I emailed him a couple of days ago and it turned out the beast was still available.  Went up to check in out in person and we worked out a deal.  1978 31' Land Yacht Sovereign.  Hope to haul it out to TFL next week.  98,111,72,0,C

tffn....I lived in a trailer with my brother and my divorced mom when I was 5 years old. You can take the boy out of the trailer, but you can't take the trailer out of the boy.

Well in that case you probably couldn't find a better trailer to live in. Nothing like returning to your roots. You read ~mc~'s blog comments lately? ;)

JW - now that is a handsome trailer and it matches your greenhouse. All this shiny metal - they're gonna be able to see your spot from Mars LOL

Nice one!

Did the little house get to little for you? I am interested in your reasons because I am thinking about building one similar.

Wow John, I'm so envious. Air Stream is The Cadillac of RVs. Congrats!

The Air Stream is like the essence of road trip americana. I envy you, those things are sweet. If you felt like a road trip this weekend the 2011 International Route 66 Festival is going on in Amarillo.

Pray tell . . . why did you purchase the Airstream? Looking to take the Field Lab on the road?

Been keeping my eye out for an interesting travel trailer to turn into a quick guest room.

I had two uncles way back years ago who each owned 31 foot Airstreams. I got the pleasure to travel with one when he only had a 21 or so foot model. Had a wonderful trip that I will never forget, took almost 3 months.

And let me say that those old faded numbers on the upper front of it meant that it was owned by someone who belonged to the Wally Byum Caravan Club.

John, I am SO envious of your Airstream acquisition! I've been wanting one for a long time, now. We just got a Scamp - like a tiny, white, fiberglass version of the Airstream. Our first step on the way to Airstreamdom! As a guest cottage, you couldn't do much better than the Land Yacht. Perhaps you could pull it over and park it on that ledge overlooking the little canyon you showed to Ok Hwa and I last November. It would be so nice to step out that door and take in that magnificent view. A big congrats on your purchase.

Thanks, also, for the link to the Murphy St. Raspa Co. What a great little store! We will be sure to stop by there on our next trip out your way.

lot of "soyados" arround there in Alpine...liked very much Victor and Cristina site and store -online visit-, will drive by this summer..its unvelievable how creative people are, find ways to survive not needing be a "slave" depending on others on a minimum or low wage, self sustain, that was the Old West, we ve been forgetting this in America in Cities.

Nice airstream, like the direction you are going with a guest cottage. I am sure you will have it full all the time.
