Choose your own crime statistics is a brilliant exposition, but I do not at all expect that logic or reasoning will enter into the political/social debate. After all, this is America, where mediocrity is king.

Therefore, although this video is educational, those who are taking action already have an agenda formed long ago.

The proportional connection between violent crime increase and population per unit area is worth considering. Unfortunately this is dashed when factoring in one of the world's largest cities, Tokyo, Japan. As in almost all of Japan, population density is high, and especially in Tokyo. Yet the violent crime rate is so small it's not worth counting.

So I suggest the problem is the culture. Not the guns. Not the cities. But who we are as a community.

Or, more to the point, who we are not.

I agree with K1MGY, this is BRILLIANT and this should go viral. I have re-posted it and will send it to my representatives in Congress and the local media and ask why they are not using these stats!

I will cut to the chase and post the direct link to the FBI's table of violent crime stats. Hard to refute the Government's own stats...

The video barely mentions the poverty level in that video.

Poverty is perhaps the biggest driver of all crime, not just violent crime.

When we as a people begin to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, we will impact the violent crime rate much more dramatically than any politician can for or against gun laws.

"Jesus answered, If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.'" Matthew 19:21

"Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys." Luke 12:33

"But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind." Luke 14:13

"When Jesus heard this, he said to him, You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.'" Luke 18:22

"If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth." 1 John 3:17-18

Do not be misled by politicians or the earthly men who promote their profiteering ways.

Seek the truth in the bible and do the work of Jehovah God, not the work of a misguided man more focused on selfish anger and hatred than of love for all of God's children young and old.

So, where does Terlingua, Texas fit into this commentary? Other than the rediculously high "Prime" rate (for a nicely prepared cut of red meat at the local cafe/theatre), is Terlingua even a tiny "blip" on the crime statistics radar network? Even if violent crimes exist there
, who reports? Does anyone NOT own a firearm or two in Big "T"? Perhaps I just let the cat out of the bag!!

ok so so what you are saying is violent crime is in our poverty stricken inner cities...duh....now using statistics...a man beats another with a club...man dies...a man/boy kills 20+ innocent children with an assualt gun....ok so now were tied in violent crimes...i'm glad you mastered math...to bad you missed logic....

When a Republican starts talking about improving the economy and education in urban areas, I will be all ears. And, fwiw, I'd rather be beat up than shot to death.

Improving the economy and education in urban areas, right. That's pretty funny. You must have voted for Obama.

Well, this fellow takes a few leaps that should be questioned. First: since when is the FBI not a biased organization? Second, he is very handy with the thought that England and Wales have a higher violent crime rate, but rather conveniently downplays the fact that they have a much lower murder rate (only about 27%) as high as the US... Might this be the twin fact that England and Wales have very stringent laws regarding gun ownership and the fact that most of their police do not carry guns?? Another minor point: he does some flim flam on the number of cities in the US greater than 250 thou vs England and Wales. (186 / 32 = 5.8) Yet the population of the US is 5.6 times the size of those two countries. I like his approach to the question, but don't think that he really addresses the main problems. It is important to get past the bombastic approaches of the Dems and Reps (and the silly lobby for the gun manufacturers called the NRA). The country needs an open and honest debate.

It seems preception is key here and a huge gap between urban and rural parts of the countryhttp://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/01/11/bidens-background-plan-riles-rurals/
Maybe living in on of the "red" countys that cover about 95 percent of the land mass of this great nation has skewed my view of what needs to be done about voilent crime. One thing I do know, 911 is 25 min. away where I live so my AR is in my hand as I my wife dials the phone for backup

Jay's comment above saying Jesus (or lack there of) is a big factor.

Look at the crime data for Sweden...they are 85% atheist and have murder rates and violent crime rates that are an order of magnatude lower than the US.

It is more about culture and economics, Sweden is near the top im terms of those community values
