Is that electric or phone? Someone got electric. Do you have new neighbors? I think it is terrible that more has not been done to develop that area. I hear that by 2020 there will be water pipes down ll8. They said more was not done to develop the area because of the earthquakes. But that is baloney. California is developed and look at the earthquake activity there.There are earthquakes here and this area is developing like crazy. We have 3-4 pt. quakes. I have been having fun watching Hannah Hart on utube and her drunken cooking. She was on the Dr. Oz show. She evidently came from a dysfunctional home.

I hope that new big tower means our cell phone service will be better than it has been for a very long time? Is that what you mean by signs of civilization? I.E. there has not been any cell phone reception at our Mahan Hunt Camp for 40 years. But we now do have a regular telephone service that requires a payment every month - whether we use it - or do not use it (because we are not living there). Improved cell phone reception at our cabin - means we could save on our monthly bills - by dropping the local (land line) telephone service! .

Piping water to the ranch is a fools game. The tower is for Big Bend Telephone and internet only. They have another tower on top of 9 point mesa.

@Ronald Mahan

Wow, 40 years without cell phone reception? Commercially available cell phones have only been around 30 years. Impressive!

If there is internet, you can make telephone calls through the internet. IE: Skype

John, why is pumping water not feasible? Because not enough people live there yet? How about having a few communal wells along 118? Maybe water and electric would bring in too many people?

I remember 50 years ago when this place in Texas had cactus and was empty sandy, rocky land with nothing when I purchased land. Now there are 40,000 people here and currently five (5) new homes going up next to me not to mention all the others.

STEVE - Although we have never been able to use cell phones at our Mahan Hunt Camp - we can drive about 10 miles to another location - to get to an area where cell phone reception is acceptable most of the time. This occurs because there are a lot of high hills (or low mountains) that block cell phone reception at our Hunt Camp. . And the population of the area is so low - cell phone companies have no economic incentives to place more cell towers in the area.

The U.S. government (meaning taxpayer paid for) gave the local phone company millions of dollars to run land line telephone cable all over the Terlingua Ranch. Any Internet Service provided by Big Bend Telephone Company by these new towers - would involve a monthly fee - which would not be practical for a vacation cabin occupied only a few weeks each year!

You have discussed an interesting topic that everybody should know. Very well explained with examples. I have found a similar website led sign visit the site to know more about sinking.
