3 down, 3 to go

Lots of nothing but welding today...zapped through all the final welds on truss 3. Brushed off all the joints then primed most of them till the spray paint ran out. Benita took her regular morning nap after breakfast.

Checked my road at 5PM and it still had some bad spots and couldn't even make it all the way to inspect the really bad spots. We got .37" of rain early last night and that is more than enough to swamp me in. Good news is we had a nice sunny day all day so perhaps I will be able to get out tomorrow. With all that sunshine, I baked a loaf of bread in the solar oven in between welding shifts...a simple loaf with dried minced onion as the only flavoring.

Wrapped up the Saturday schedule by hoisting the truss into place. Moved and raised smooth as silk. The Benny Hill music ran through my head the whole time - but no girls in bikinis walked by when I finished....

Can you post your bread recipe? I'm contemplating building my own solar oven up in Dallas although the days are already getting short...

Wow, those trusses are impressive. Every time I see another one in place it inspires me more to go out and make something myself.

They are looking fine.

Onion Loaf: 4 Cups self rising flour, 4 TBS sugar, 1/2 cup dried onion flakes, 16 oz beer. Mix dry ingredients well then add beer and mix till all moist. Lightly kneed adding flour as necessary. Place dough in lightly greased dutch oven, adding sprinkle of onion flakes on top. Place covered in hot solar oven. I cook my bread at 275-300 for 3 hours.

John, I were gonna ask ya how ya got those trusses from inside the warehouse to the outside to raise. Thanks for the pic. Ingenious method.

By the way, my solar system is working perfectly...better than expected. Now when I come visit, I won't be steal'n from your system.

Benita looks content. Aren't you glad she found you. Your bread looks good. I'm amazed how well your solar oven works.

Way to go, J.W.! The greenhouse project is really coming together.
It just dawned on me as I was looking at the photo of the three trusses up on the containers that a similar structure, but with a solid roof instead of a transparent greenhouse roof, would make an awesome living quarters, with four private rooms, and a large family room/kitchen in the middle. Something to consider as I contemplate my escape from the city!
