truss mount...

Gave a great deal of thought this morning to the gutter situation.  The trick is to keep 51' of length at just the right slope so gravity will do the work.  3 hours at the GrubShack rendered project enlightenment.  Decided on the truss gutter mounts while basking in conversation with the Terlingua Ranch Illuminati.  Just the parts I need are in the steel skeleton crate that my go kart arrived in over 2 years ago.  Got one up and mounted and clear to go for the other 11.  Wish I had thought of this before mounting the north side....will set these in place for the south side first to assure perfect pitch.   Two more days of chilly weather coming in but nothing like the last blast.  Cutting and welding the other mounts is the perfect cool weather activity.  Rounded out the day by setting up a new batch of Kombucha....I got scobys growing out of control.  Benita got the deluxe treatment today.  59,78,24,0,B

Benita needs a barn.

Hope you're keeping that Kombucha warm. It likes it that way. When I was growing it in Plano during the winter I kept a heating pad activated by a thermostat in a wooden box with it to keep it about 79 degrees (or above). We kept the house at 68 degrees.

What is Kombucha? What is a scoby? And I hope that last pic is beer!

SCOBY is a zoogleal mat. Hope that helps, Frann.

Frann, since John probably AIN'T going to answer your question here you go on the Kombucha. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kombucha

For another question I've seem more than once and John never seems to answer "Is he going to enclose the ends of TFL greenhouse?" The answer is YES according to him when I asked him at the Grub Shack some time back. I told him I was going to answer that question on my blog, but decided to do it on his instead.

That is some seriously good looking work on the truss/roof/gutter/gutter mount situation. This trucker gives it a big 10-4.

Like frann, I, too, thought picture #2 was beer.

After reading these comments, I still am not sure what kombucha, scoby, or a zoogleal mat are all about. Will do as tffnguy suggested and just look it up on Wikipedia.

I figured for sure John was going to enclose the ends of the roof at least, and the whole greenhouse as well with doors. Knowing him, the particulars will be revealed in the fullness of time. I like how he keeps the design process close to the vest, and when he's good and ready, presents us with a fully finished project or design.

Keep 'em guessing, John, and as usual, good luck with the next phase.

how is your mother? we were considering to brew some kombucha and while cruising craigslist we found somebody selling off all their brewing stuffs b/c “the mother went bad”. sort of gave me second thoughts about how easy it is claimed to be by the places selling $25 starters. and the market for mom’s gone bad is already saturated.
