Pandemic Saturday

What is it with cowboys and covid?  For 12 years I have bought most of my feed supplies in Alpine from what used to be Johnson Feed & Supply and is now Out West Feed & Supply.  Throughout the pandemic, none of their employees have ever been masked nor have they ever requested patrons to be masked.  Rarely have I ever seen a masked cowboy shopping there.  In addition, several of there employees have told me they have no intention of getting vaccinated.  Since there is now a Tractor Supply right next door, I decided to give them a try for feed.  Not only are their employees masked, they also encourage their customers to wear masks.  I got all the feed I needed at a cheaper price and signed up for discounts through their rewards membership and their Tractor Supply credit card - and I got a free hat.  82,89,68,0,B

Awesome! Using your freedom of choice, letting the market work as it should. Your money, your choice. You can make your own decisions based on your beliefs, not some danged-o government mandate or state requirement. You are a smart man that can choose to live your life as you please, cuz you’ve earned it. And you got a new hat to prove it. Sounds as tho making your own decisions for your own self sounds like a good plan. You know, this sounds vaguely familiar to topics also discussed on Pandemic Saturday. For the record, I’m double vaccinated with Maderna, tested COVID + Wednesday evening, and had the monoclonal antibody infusion yesterday. I will get the booster in 90 days if available, but I’m not getting on a soap box or pulpit to try and tell others what to do about vaccination, or where to buy their livestock feed.

I don't know what to say about anti maskers anymore, so I just avoid them.

Tricia, maybe they are actually following the science. Most of the cloth masks that their memaw helped them make at the kitchen table or the vanity mask they bought at the dollar tree dont do squat to stop covid. I'm all for real mitigation but the kabuki theater is getting old.

Tricia, I think that you are right.
There is a 90/10 rule in human interactions.
With a 10% effort, ninety per cent of people can be persuaded to go along with the evidence of science and education and learning.
You can waste another 90% of your time and effort trying to persuade the remaing 10% and you will not be successful, because they don't want to learn.

It's hard getting N-95s (real ones with headbands) over cowboy hats.

I love Tractor Supply for a lot of stuff, but given the choice between a home-owned feed store and a chain (the real estate for TS is owned by the family that started the business and is part of a separate entity from the stores, which I believe are independent corporations) I'd choose the locals every time. Masks or no masks, vax or no vax. Our liberties, barring strongarm government officials, permit us to operate as we wish, including who we choose to do business with for whatever reason. Personal choices. You made me think about this. I'm going to check out Jupe Mills for dog food next time. That's where we bought our water storage tanks and static feeders etc. Thanks.

4600 doctors and scientists including Dr.Robert Malone one of the people credited for mRNA technology used in the vaccines have published a open letter condemning governments and covid policy makers of preventing physicians from providing life saving treatments for patients and silencing scientific debate. Dont look now but the narrative may be falling apart.

Unknown...Trying to debate the subject using bullshit information found only on whack job websites just shows what a fool you are. Hints: 1. Dr. Robert Malone is not a reputable source of information on Covid. 2. There is no "International Alliance of Physicians and Medical Scientists". 3. There was no Global Covid Summit held in Rome in September.

Virtue signaling says a lot about a person.

John Wells said...

J... care to elaborate? Not exactly sure what it is you are getting at.

J said...

Google “virtue signaling”. That appears (to me) to be what you did in this post.

As noted, Robert W. Malone, M.D. is a crackpot con-man quack.

He may have contributed previously to useful science. Not now.

Not hard to find 4,600 other deluded people. Educated folks have been slinging snake oil forever. My personal favorite is fellow Texan, Doc John Romulus Brinkley, M.D., Ph.D., plus several more diploma mill degrees. Voice of an angel. His engineers built the world’s first flamethrower radio station in Del Rio/Cd. Acuna in the ‘30s and they went on to develop the first radar for the U.S. in WWII. The good doc didn’t fare so well. He did made a temporary fortunate implanting a sliver of goat testicle in the scrotum of feckless men. Too bad he missed ivermectin. Doc Malone promotes it. Not completely effective; there’s still way too many worms around.

So who is a good Dr. that deserves all our respect? Dr Jill Biden or Dr Anthony Fauci? Both awesome. (?)

J...hmmm - not sure how doing a little research which points out how "unknown" is obviously wrong about a subject has anything to do with trying "to demonstrate one's good character or social conscience or the moral correctness of one's position on a particular issue". If anything, I am demonstrating my intelligence and someone else's lack there of.

Didnt you smoke for 35 years knowing for decades that it causes cancer, heart disease and a variety of other health concerns? Yet you call other people idiots for THEIR personal health decisions. And before you use the argument that none of those health issues are contagious, ever heard of second hand smoke? How many people has your smoking contributed to their health issues?

J J Power said...

It is a sure sign that you have lost the debate when you attack the man and not the argument.

Unknown said...

Just pointing out the hypocrisy of it. I suppose calling people idiots is somehow not attacking someone.

Looks like Pfizer and Merck are both working on a covid pill. It acts like a protease inhibitor...much like the way some researchers think ivermectin works for covid. Of course the problem is ivermectin is off patent and only costs pennies a dose compared to what I imagine these "new" drugs will cost.

John Wells said...

Unknown - Calling you an idiot is not an attack...it is just the truth. You just furthered that truth by posting the false argument about ivermectin. You wouldn't be such an idiot if you diligently researched the BS you post.

I'm not sure why it's so hard to accept the obvious about masks.

Masks aren't perfect, but they give us huge bang (protection) for the buck. They do an excellent job of stopping respiratory droplets, which is how Covid-19 primarily spreads. Respiratory droplets are many thousands of times larger than virii. But the virii travel in the droplets, not on their own. Got it?

So cover yer piehole with a mask and pipe down. p.s The analogy with smoking is incredibly lame. Choosing to smoke (outside) doesn't risk other peoples' lives. Try polio for a better comparison.
