still no sign...

Did a little more work on the greenhouse then checked another trail - still no sign.

Thanks for all the nice messages about Benita.  It was a very fortunate life event to have the experience of bonding with her the way I did.  Just like my good ol' dog Goldie ( who I adopted when she was 11 ) Benita was a retiree that I took on to provide a good quality of life in the final years.  I feel really good about that.

This is the last photo I took of Benita...licking Mao who gave birth to Minimoo just days later.

reminds me of a Steve Werner song....Life's Highway...."now we're young, then, we're old, pass'in thru, then pass'in on"....we're so lucky she passed your way. Hang in there...where the heck is Floppy!...i"ve been too busy to check...hope he's still carryin' on.

am taking the fact you aren't finding any sign to be a hopeful thing - she may be on an extended walkabout.
You were both lucky to have crossed trails. Keeping my fingers crossed that she surprises all of us and wanders back in soon with another silent tale that she shares with you.

This is so sad - it breaks my heart. I am going to hold out and hope that she is just taking some time to be alone.

Hope she comes back too, really fell in love with those wise eyes that paid attention...

Damn John, I am so sorry. You did right by her and I know she appreciates it. I hope I am lucky enough to have a John Wells in my life as I get older.

Sure hope you are wrong and she shows back up before long.

She'll be sorely missed.

Deeply sorry for the loss of sweet Benita. Her spirit will always be present with Goldie at the FL, I am sure.

She could also surprise you though, would not be the first time.

Oh my, this is what we've all been dreading, isn't it?

Well, like tffnguy, I'm not giving up just yet, Mr. Wells. Women like to keep a little mystery about them. And she may just be trying to round up some of the more recalcitrant bovine moms to bring 'em by TFL for their pre & post natal check-ups.

But really, whether she's just gone on a slightly longer walkabout this time or she is indeed gone from this earth, the memory of the very good life you chose to share with her by providing a safe & gentle haven to ease her later years in that harsh land will never leave, that's for sure.

The joy that comes from just thinking about the charming kinship you had with her will continue to live and breathe within a lot of people's hearts and it will stay within you & continue to nurture your soul til the day you leave this earth too, I have no doubt.

Thank you so much for being so very, very sweet to that precious old girl, Mr. Wells.

Ya did good, kid.

And Godspeed, lovely Benita, to whichever one of your heavens it's now time to make your way home toward, either the one you were lucky enough to find at the Field Lab or at your next one in a brand new life which hopefully is filled with a thousand John Wellses to cherish you but doesn't have a single one of those nasty desert bugs & snakes! ;-)

You got her near the end of her life and you were her forever home. And you did good. Real good.

So, is she missing or has she passed on?

I think she's just on another walk about like she's done before...she seem to do this when spring starts to creep in and calves are being born. She's been so blessed to have you and we've all been lucky to have you sharing her and all you do with us out here.
