Is is always a bad sign when you go to a chicken coop and see feathers everywhere. Something managed to get into the pen two nights ago and killed Manny. Chupa was in his own personal pen and was unharmed. (I have been keeping them separated since they started fighting a couple of weeks ago.) Strange thing is, Chupa was just as vulnerable in his pen as Manny was. I reinforced the main pen and Chupa made it through last night unscathed. I couldn't find my game cam so I just got a new one today. Perhaps I will find what evil is lurking out there tonight. 93,96,74,0,B

Sorry to hear of your loss! Hope you find the identity of the chicken killer and put an end to these night raids. I am sure Chupa will sleep better when that threat is terminated.
sorry to hear this. poor Manny.
However - that is the way the meat eaters survive. They eat the animals that eat a vegetarian diet. And the Field Lab has a regular buffet of vegetarian animals living there. But away from the Field Lab - these vegetarian animals are more widely dispersed - which makes it more difficult for the meat eaters to find them. Maybe the Field Lab needs a good sheep dog to protect the flocks of vegetarian animals now living there? I have a cat to keep my residence free of mice!
Very sorry to hear about Manny.
Gosh with all those rabbits out an about just upsetting to me that mr. snicky went to all that trouble. So sorry about Manny.
We live in remote, off grid, rural Arizona. We have personally seen mountain lion, bobcat, javelina, vultures, owls, etc., etc., on our ranch. Our 15 chickens have their own little "castle" to protect them or else they are gone.... The floor is 3/4 plywood. Two walls are wire (the other two walls are 1/2 plywood); the wire is 1/8" hardware cloth (wire) and then 1/2" hardware cloth to the top. Multiple types of latches for those smarter critters on every opening. Roof is metal. Their "free range" area is covered with 2" chicken wire. This is what we have to do to have chickens and their eggs, which we consider a real treat as town is a long ways off. 1/8" hardware cloth keeps out the rattlesnakes. As you already know, really got to stay alert....
OMG!!! You don't think Chupa set up a hit, do you!!??
Looking forward to the trail cam catching the guilty culprit.
Wonderful videos! Hope the camera will help!
We have had a lot of trouble with coyotes. A panther was spotted in our back pasture. Best way to keep chickens safe at night in our area is to let them roost in trees or on some high rafters. Good luck.
Oh Manny!
Sorry to hear about Manny
