Day 18,263...

Began the big 5 O by helping Ben pour the slab for his water tank....was just an extra hand to pitch in when needed while 6 loads (5 bags each) of concrete got blended in his cement mixer. Next stop was to visit another builder buddy who I just heard was back at work just north of me. His is the place that (still) has the undies hanging on the clothesline.

Came back home and since the cement bug bit me this morning - I prepped and poured one more item on the checklist. Seems my last footing had quite a bit of gravel in the bottom of the form so I chiseled out the loose stuff and filled in underneath with what amounted to two more bags of concrete.

Went on another gravel search/distraction and decided to check out an even shorter route to the swimming hole that I have been eyeing on GoogleEarth. Drove to the end of a dirt road just south of me then walked about a half mile to check out a go kart route. Followed a longhorn trail so I think I am onto something. The day was getting late so decided to get back to the task at hand...gravel. Found an excellent patch close to home and got the first of what will have to be about 7 loads. Finally discovering the motherload and bringing the first batch home was my present to myself.

No big party tonight (I don't have much patience for parties anymore)...just a nice quiet evening of feeling old and young. Shot off some fireworks to mark the day. Thanks to all the folks that sent birthday greetings. Looking forward to tomorrow - a day with no specific significance.

Dang your Google Earth must be better than mine,, you said "shorter route to the swimming hole that I have been eyeing on GoogleEarth" maybe I don't have the right layer loaded in?

Happy Birthday, John.
Will never forget your disgruntled expression when I threw a suprise party for you in S'Town.
I don't think you ever recovered.
