The History Channel

In case you are looking for something to watch on TV.  I don't have TV, so will just have to stick with The Book until the series comes out on DVD.  The series begins tonight.

The Bible is an epic five-week, 10 hour television miniseries premiering March 3, 2013 on the History Channel from Emmy Award winning husband and wife team, Mark Burnett and Roma Downey. For two hours each Sunday night millions of viewers will see the Bible from Genesis to Revelation come to life in a way never before seen. The final episode of the series will air on Easter Sunday and will feature the death and resurrection of Jesus.  http://www.history.com/shows/the-bible

Danny and I are looking forward to watch this presentation tonite. Hoping the interpretation is scriptural... AND it interests people watching enough that they pick up a Bible to read it themselves!
Thanks for sharing.

"For behold, the day is coming, burning like a furnace; and all the arrogant and every evildoer will be chaff; and the day that is coming will set them ablaze," says the Lord of hosts, "so that it will leave them neigher root nor branch."

"But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings; and you will go forth and skip about like calves from the stall." Malachi 4:1-2

Interesting how God uses calves skipping about and other animals to demonstrate joy. Sort of like Ben.

The first episode of the series was extremely well done as far as production values.

It is mostly faithful to the bible, but there were a few discrepancies where they dramatically embellished the scriptures.

One example: Two angels come to visit the city of Sodom. They save Lot and his family from the sinners of Sodom as well as saving Lot and his family from God's wrath of destruction he brings on Sodom.

That part of the story parallels reasonably well with the bible scriptures in Genesis Chapter 19.

Where the TV show drastically embellishes the story is creating a very dramatic and bloody sword fight between the two angels and the residents of Sodom. There is nothing in the bible about such a sword fight ever taking place. Clearly the TV producers created that fight scene just for effect.

It's a quite dramatic sword fight, worthy of the best movie swashbucklers, but the Bible says nothing about it ever taking place.

At least the TV show got the part correct about God blinding the men of Sodom that were trying to force their way into Lot's house. They also made sure to turn Lot's wife into a pillar of salt when she did not do as God's angels instructed and looked back at the burning city of Sodom as she was escaping.

Then the TV show completely neglected the incest story between Lot and his Daughters in the cave as they were hiding out after the destruction of the city. I guess they can't include everything from the bible in the TV series. Perhaps that scene would have been a bit too disturbing for the censors.

There were a few other embellishments that strayed from the bible and went way over the top, but overall it is an impressive show. Well worth watching.

It skips large portions of the bible story, and you don't get the full meaning of almost any of the events, but it's worth watching.
