one good leg
Got rain in the forecast for the weekend so did feed run to Alpine. UPS dropped off a load of Amazon Prime groceries while I was gone. My friend Ronald did the driving although he is a double amputee (below the knee). Between the two of us we have one good leg. 61,72,43,0,C

yield
Proverbs 13:3He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.
Proverbs 16:32He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
Proverbs 10:19In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.
Matthew 23:12And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

DIY parts
I have been pretty curious about my new leg hardware. Planning on getting info from my surgeon next time I see him as to the exact dimensions and brand of my tibial nail. Trying also to figure out what exactly the hospital charged for it. Seems I can buy one on Ebay for just over $200. Hope I can find an exact match for what I got inside my leg bone just to show off. Found a complete installation kit for $800 in case I want to go into the business... 45,55,47,T,B

Went for a short drive to the mailboxes today to see if I could. First time behind the wheel in 6 weeks. My horizons just expanded exponentially. 60,71,30,0,C

carnal block
2 Corinthians 10:3-5
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

unwrapped
Aired out my booboo for awhile today. Got a little natural vitimin D. Lovin' the light fiberglass splint. It is held in place with just a couple of Ace bandages - a bit of a contortion act to wrap and unwrap, but well worth the extra work. 59,68,37,0,B

the chaos of infirmity
The remote controls that I installed for my computer and power systems a couple of months ago (because I was lazy) have certainly come in handy. Keeping a tidy house is the major effort now. My overnight at the squeaky clean hotel has inspired me to start clearing the decks as part of my physical (and mental) therapy. 47,60,35,0,C

according to plan
Had a good visit with the mastermind behind my new leg hardware. He was pleased with how things looked down there which was reassuring to hear. (Here is a simulation of a procedure similar to mine.) He even made a new fiberglass splint for me since I hate the boot the last doctor switched me to. I go back in one month for the next visit...plus an xray...and hopefully a go ahead on some weight bearing. 48,57,33,0,B

splurge
Splurged on a hotel room in Alpine for the night to skip a very early rush from TFL through potentially icy conditions tomorrow. Have a follow up appointment with my surgeon in Odessa. This will be the first time I have seen him since a few moments before my first surgery. Booked a handicapped accessible room at the Holiday Inn Express - the newest lodge in town. It has been over 3 weeks since my last real shower...I think I'm really gonna enjoy this! 36,41,32,0,B

cowater
Finally graduated the boys from the silly water bowl that required daily filling. Now they have a 160 gallon trough plus 300' feet of hose so I can keep it topped off from any one of my tanks. 35,43,32,0,B

listen carefully
Often when listening so someone else I sometimes find myself: distracted, impatient, frustrated, prone to interrupt. When listening to Christ, it pays to lend your full attention to his message.
Proverbs 181Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.3 When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.4 The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.5 It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.6 A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.7 A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.8 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.9 He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.11 The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.16 A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.17 He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.20 A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord.23 The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

occupational therapy
A couple of days before the accident, I was messing with my tracking circuit and inadvertently crossed some wires and blew it. For those of you that don't know...circuit boards are filled with magic and if they smoke - the magic is released and they no longer function. I ended up just parking the rig in the center position till it could be fixed. A couple of days ago I got the new tracking circuit and decided I would put it in today. Now at least something is back on track at TFL. 38,53,42,0,W

PCP
Had a followup visit with Dr. Lueke in Fort Davis today. Wound is healing. Looked pretty nasty when he unwrapped me, but looked good after the nurse gave my ankle its' first bath in a month. Off the codeine now - just tylenol at bedtime, a weeks worth of antibiotics for good measure, and Dr. Cunningham's bone cocktail...vitamin D-3, vitamin C, and calcium citrate. 40,55,28,0,B

mobility
Near the end of my stay in Odessa, my healthcare worker came in to discuss procurement of a wheelchair for me for when I returned home. There was a bit of an issue with my insurance from the medical supply company in Alpine - something about my insurance being cancelled at the end of the year. Only took one phone call to clear it up. Seems they were confused about the difference between cancellation and automatic renewal at the end of the billing cycle.
I started thinking about how I would best be able to get around back at TFL. The head of the PT department was in charge of perscribing wheels for me. The skinny wheels of a standard wheelchair are fine in a perfect world of hard/smooth floors but I felt I could use a little more tread out in my real world. When I mentioned I would be needing all terrain tires, all I got was a blank stare.
Rather than just live with their only choice - I found a reasonable option online that I am ordering Monday. Just the wheels I need that will fit the chair I got...a nice fat flat free alternative. I'm also wondering what my insurance company is paying monthly for what I am riding around on. I can buy the same model of the rental for $175 on Amazon. 33,35,29, .4",W

2015
I am blessed to start the new year with close to perfect health other than my bum leg. Pulse, temperature, blood pressure, oxygen level, and blood work all looked good during my stay (except for one anomaly where my potassium level was low - rectified with a couple of horse pills...and a brief stint of constipation due to the hydrocodone). Other than that, all I got was a bunch of bags of IV antibiotics for the first week and a daily shot to avoid clotting in my legs, a morning stool softener pill, and 24 hour TLC. My nurses were all surprised that a man of my age wasn't already on some form of medication due to a pre existing condition. At the time, I was the only patient on the floor that had no other drug interactions for the nurses to be concerned with. There but for the grace of God I go.
Proverbs 3: 24 When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet. 25 Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. 26 For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.
