met some minis

Did Alpine again today and was able to get 2 of the 3 batteries I need for my something solar setup.  Highlight was meeting a local facebook friend in person for the first time.  Stopped by the ranch of Rachael Waller Rondeaux and her husband Rod.  They have a bunch of critters but my favorites were the mini donkeys (Squirt and Punkin).  http://rachaelwallerphotography.smugmug.com/  http://www.grandmothershorses.com/rod.html

Uh oh! You've conversed with Marjorie at TMR and now you've met Rachael, Rod and hopefully Chey too! These wonderful folks are doing their part in bringing awareness of the plight of the wild burros and equines, not to mention the rescues they make regularly. Aren't the little donks gorgeous!?

John, I am so happy you met my friends at Firelight South Ranch! They have been with me on the battle to save our last herd of wild burros in TX since we marched on Austin with 103,000 signatures asking Gov. Perry to call an end to the bloodshed. They were there with Wild Burro Protection League when we sponsored a townhall meeting to see how many in the area truly wanted to save the wild burros of the area. Yes, it was amazing how many came out on a weeknight to this meeting from all over. What I learned is that the people who live in the area value the wild burro. The danger for them does not come from within, it comes from Austin. We remain ever vigilant and hopeful that they will always be there as they have for millions of years. Thank you for loving them too, John. And, add your name to the list of hundreds in the area who want them left alone.

The little donkeys are gorgeous. Something else I have just learnt, I never knew the burros were wild, now I know why they just wander onto your land, hope they get stayin free.

High John, Maria and I are from Brooklyn, Park Slope and Bay Ridge. We are now retired. I worked for the Sanitation Dept and after retirement from there, bought a Medalion Taxi.
I too, found a love for the American deserts, having full timed in an RV for three years. We in fact are leaving our home in Pa to possibly become Campground host in Chisos Basin, Big bend from Aug to the end of October. I applaud your courage and determination for living as you do and the inventiveness needed to sustain a livelihood on what was once a barren plot of land in the desert. There undoubtedly is an attraction for leaving it all behind. Accolades to you, John.
