splurge
Splurged on a hotel room in Alpine for the night to skip a very early rush from TFL through potentially icy conditions tomorrow. Have a follow up appointment with my surgeon in Odessa. This will be the first time I have seen him since a few moments before my first surgery. Booked a handicapped accessible room at the Holiday Inn Express - the newest lodge in town. It has been over 3 weeks since my last real shower...I think I'm really gonna enjoy this! 36,41,32,0,B

What a treat. I bet that heat would feel good. And can you gently wash your leg? I went to a new tweet-- Kensington Royal. Queen Elizabeth always looks so pretty. She was in San Antonio 20 years ago but I did not go to see her. When I lived in MI Prince Charles visited MI--never saw him. I think Harry has visited San Antonio--not sure. Anyway, I hesitate about the royals. Must be so nice in some ways, but they are way beyond my horizon. I have to be content with my life and world and the hand God deals me.
I ate at the Cracker Barrel the other day and had melt in your mouth trout and everything else. They have really good food.
enjoy! (use all the hot water)
I checked the mileage between Alpine and Odessa and it is 113 miles! I am sure you must have a good friend driving you there. So happy to see you are able to get a good shower. You will feel so much better and sleep good too. Sweet dreams.
There is a Cracker Barrel country store in midland, tx at 3108 N. 250 W. in Midland. If you have time, you might try it for a good inexpensive meal. The restaurant started in Lebanon, TN so it is like home cooking to me since my family came from WVA next door.

Stayed in that very motel the last time I was out in May. Nice for Alpine.
Hope you brought a plastic bag to put over your leg so you can really enjoy the shower. Looks like really nice accomodations. Best wishes on your follow up visit that everything is healing perfectly.
Maybe it's just me but that shower looks like an operating room!
:)
I think your surgeon will be tremendously grateful for the shower, too.
I live in abilenevtx and am42 yrs old i have many timesvthought of just leavingbivevowned a shop in town and havevpractically lived there for over 15 yrs same thing everyday i am truelly enveous of you and hope one day to. Live like you thank you for keeping this blog
John, As I get older I have found that you should never pass up a warm shower, a cold beer or a reason to laugh. Safe travels to Odessa.
Sitti ng on the shower seat you could prop you right leg on the wheelchair and cover /protect it with the curtain whilst you had a really good shower. Nice :)
It wasn't until my mother fractured her back and we had to go to San Angelo to see the neurosurgeon that I first became aware that there were handicap accessible rooms in hotels.
The shower was fabulous as it made it so much easier for me to bathe her. I know you will enjoy yours.
Best of luck in your appointment.
There are some shower stalls like that at some of the Golds Gyms in San Antonio. Some of the things work well at the gym but not all of the things at all of the gyms work well all the time or at the same time. For instance the hot tub might work but not the steam room but the dry sauna might work. The shower cold water might work but not the hot water. The water pressure might work in spurts and so forth. But overall it is good. Nothing is ever perfect all the time. I'm just grateful for the good and I can learn from the bad because something better is sure to follow.
IT NEEDS TO BE SAID -- -------Three Cheers For Julianne Braun,
WHY? Because this smart young lady got up and pushed thru a petition to roll back the unfair increases in our Brewster County taxes. The concerned voters of Brewster County then took advantage of her hard work and rolled back those unfair tax increases - by a 7 to 1 margin. Without Julianne looking out for you & I - we would have to pay those increased taxes.
Why? Julianne Braun helped our good friend John Wells - during his recent health problem.
Thank you Julianne - for looking out for all of us!

My family and I stayed there Christmas Eve and we really enjoyed the hot tub! If you can get yourself sitting in that with you leg propped on an edge, that would be awesome :) Hope your doc visit goes well.
It looks like you can even blow dry your beard! What decadence. Enjoy every minute of it. I am sure that it has begun to get old by now.
John,
It is very beautiful to witness you meeting adversity with serenity.
Simple gratitude for a shower instead of frustration from your situation.
Good stuff!
After awhile you start to appreciate the little things you take for granted. When I had the full cast from big toe to groin it was dangerous to get in the shower. When I built the addition on the house I formed the shower pan into the slab depressed 6 inches plus the curb, so it was dangerous trying to get over it and step down with crutches. In addition I had what looked like the worlds largest yellow rubber Christmas stocking that I was suppose to cover the cast with to keep it dry.So, basically I didn't take a real bath for almost 2 months.Ever try to put a sock on with a rigid leg ? Anyway, my wife comes home one day
and declared I stink and she's not putting up with it any longer. So off we go to the original bathroom ( a 50s design). I have the bum leg up on the toilet, my butt on the edge of the tub, one hand on the far edge of the tub and the soap dish in the other trying to balance my self upside down
at and angle. It was going OK until the hair. By the time shampoo came along, the blood rushed to my head and my head started pounding and I couldn't get my head down under the faucet. So she declares " I have an idea ". She runs into the kitchen and grabs the largest saucepan. By this time about 10 - 15 minutes had passed and I'd had enough. I'm like, honey hurry the ---- up. She doesn't approve of that type of language so she poured the whole pot of water down my nose and big mouth instead of my hair. Waterboarded by my own wife. Even the nicest people are capable of torture under the right circumstances....
Seconded.
Amazing lady - and so incredibly helpful - even to complete strangers.
