looking good... on the tires... small, hard ones good for smooth runways... larger softer ones maybe better for Ad Hoc "natural" landing spots... i.e. you're up and need to come down - NOW... not at your airfield.

Big tires cause turbulence in the air and act like rudders which cause more swinging. Fatties are usually recommended only for beach flights from soft sand - not necessarily for rocky landings. Bad terrain and an inappropriate landing zone is the fault of poor judgement and tires won't make much difference. The tires I have chosen are similar to most on the market and should be more than adequate to handle areas I plan on flying over. If I actually start flying again and start acting like a knucklehead - I will reconsider my safety options when it comes to landings. Bottom line: If I stay within my skill level this won't be an issue.
life is always about trade-offs... and they belong to those making them!
the wind-on-the-tires thing is surely real... and not to be ignored.
maybe have two interchangeable sets!!! "training wheels" .. then "graduate"!
I just worry about things going sideways and having to come down... but then I'm not doing this, you are... and it's certainly your call... and I enjoy watching!!!
While "engine outs" can happen, proper maintenance and thorough pre-flight inspections greatly minimize the risk of it happening. Many pilots who take really good care of their motors never have an issue with the motor quitting. Minimizing the risk is what this sport is all about - and take it from me...I am all about minimizing risk from now on. After my broken leg experience I am not even sure I will pursue flying as a regular hobby - but I need to give it a proper chance before I say "never again".
Hey John - I'm a whitewater paddler, semi-retired... have paddled the Rio Grand and others and there are two things - those you can control - and those you cannot..
some things happen that you have no control over...
that's the part of life - and the things we do in life - that "complicate" it sometimes ...
;-)
that's my perspective but I totally acknowledge there are 50 ways from Sunday for others...
we're not all built the same - thank God!

"SUPERDELL" Schanze is a "must avoid" in the paramotor world. http://footflyer.com/Misc/Dell_Schanze_WPPGA/Dell_Shanze_WPPGA_Flattop_Sham.htm
Heh heh, I see what you did there, a little double entendre with "draft" ;O)
Maybe some bigger diameter spoked wheels?
