Which one of these is not like the others...
Looks like someone's burro ran away or was turned out. I posted a picture on Facebook and no one has stepped up to claim this critter. This odd one out was very tame and allowed me to get close enough to hand feed it. Some people out here are really bad about being responsible for their livestock. Occasionally someone decides they want a burro only to discover how much trouble and expense they can be and simply turn them loose. 87,91,71,0,B

Mr. Ed
This burro is relatively new at TFL...I call him Mr. Ed. He has been coming in almost every day for over a month now. James Lewis (another local burro) came in with Ed today after they had been fighting. No sign of Mr. Floppy for a couple of months now. These guys are brutal when they hang out together. 76,91,71,B,0

Burrito Buddies
Just as I was deciding when to get started on the next phase of the battery house this morning, I got a call from my friend Charley. He asked if I could drive him up to Alpine to pick up a prescription. He was rushed to the hospital last week with stroke symptoms. Turns out it is only a nasty inner ear infection as far as they can tell at our local quackery. I was happy to oblige him as he would pay for the gas and I wouldn't have to finalize my decision on when to get started today. And it's the weekend...a Saturday - that's no time to be getting to work, anyway. I welcomed the chance to help a friend out, even though it meant a second trip to Alpine.
That trip pretty much shot the day which was OK by me. I was welcomed home by the sight of a second burro out here. My lonely burro buddy who has been hanging with the longhorns for 6 weeks now has found a friend of his own species to hang out with finally. I wondered that since animals don't tend to look in mirrors - how do they know they aren't like other animals they see? A perfect end to an easy day.

Burrito
In the big scheme of things, very little was accomplished today. Had to settle on planning and thinking. Need to make a run up to Alpine on Friday to order cinder blocks for my greenhouse building and creek dam, get some extra parts for a swamp cooler I am building for a neighbor, and check back with the county clerk about 120 acres that is tax delinquent adjacent to my property. Hope to make my new estate a full quarter - 160 acres.
Had a quick thunderstorm late this afternoon that dumped just over 1/4" of rain in a half hour. Pains me to see thousands of gallons of runoff pouring past me when I am not yet able to catch it for future irrigation. Hope it dries out quickly as I'm expecting a UPS delivery tomorrow afternoon with some vital parts for my DIY solar oven.
Major accomplishment of the day was getting just a little bit closer to the wild burro that is hanging with the longhorn herd nearby. I was warned by my real cowboy relatives in Colorado not to get a burro/donkey/mule because they can become a part of the family. But this poor guy looks like he could use a friend other that a bunch of longhorns that probably think of him as some kind of freak....and I'm kind of in the mood for a pet again.
