clock cleaned

After getting the musical clock running by giving it a healthy dose of WD40, I removed all that with some brake cleaner from Autozone.  While it was running fine, I had to degrease all the surfaces and gears - otherwise dust would end up sticking to everything and gum up the works.  Applied just a dab of clock oil to all the shaft bearings and added a touch of grease to the barrel gears and it purring along again.  76,83,59,0,B

Got an ebay delivery today...they sent the wrong clock.  This one is the battery operated version.  I ordered the wind up mechanical one which is much more interesting.  Now I have to wait for the replacement.  80,91,56,0,C

a new year - a new clock

After a couple of adjustments, the wooden clock is ticking away pretty well.  Now it is running for about 5 hours on a full winding and is accurate within about 4 seconds over that amount of time.  Next I am going to attempt to add a second hand with a gear made with my 3D printer.  45,56,38,0,B

No heavy lifting today...since I handled over 5,000 lbs of material yesterday.  Spent all day assembling clock #2.  This one is turning out to be much more temperamental than the Chupa clock and will take a lot more work to get it running smoothly.  77,80,50,0,B

like clockwork...

I have always been fascinated by clock mechanisms and time measurement.  As a kid I was always taking things apart to see how they worked and I must have disassembled at least 20 clocks.  When I was a teenager, I tried making one from scratch - cutting the gears by hand with a jig saw.  I could never get the gears to mesh right.  I also spent countless hours trying to assemble a paper clock and never quite got that to work either (I still have it in a box somewhere in one of my shipping containers).   I recently found several 3D printable mechanical clocks at Thingiverse and chose the simplest one to try first.  If that works out, I will try some of the more complex ones.  53,63,44,0,B
