Brutal Tuesday

Had rain in the forecast yesterday so I left my truck at the highway Sunday night and got a ride home.  Set this up because I had 2 appointments in Alpine today that I had to attend.  Good thing because I ended up with a road swamping yesterday.  My truck was waiting for me this morning as I spent an hour huffing it to the highway.  Left at 6:45AM with a flashlight (and an extra pair of shoes) and this was the muddiest part of the trip.  Got everything accomplished in Alpine and drove back south to walk the last 2.5 miles home.  I'm bushed. These were my morning footprints on the way out.  I managed to avoid this swampy section in the light of day on the way back.  Chance of another shower tonight but hoping just a sprinkle so my road will be good to go by this weekend.  80,85,65, .32",B

too much traffic out here...

All the stranded tourists are finally unstuck on and their way home - and my road is rutted out the worst it has ever been. When I moved here 15 years ago, I used to go up to 2 weeks without seeing a single vehicle. Now it seems I see at least 2 or 3 a day. 70,76,31,0,B

It happened again...

For the second time - the owner of the campsites out my way failed to warn his guests about the road conditions during a rainstorm. Four cars stuck and 10 people stranded. Nearly an inch of rain fell today, and it will be at least Monday afternoon before these folks can go home. 38,46,37, .85",C

free at last...

The ranch sent the grader out due to the previous night's medical emergency and all the stranded tourists were finally able to head home. Overall, there were 20 people and 8 vehicles trapped out here thanks to the swamped road. DIY road crew...

Day 2 of the dry out. Some of the stranded folks get a gold star for taking on the task of doing some road work so they could get their families out of here. The Sheriff's Department made it out last night with an EMT to transport a sick girl to the hospital - so the trail has been blazed. 83,89,61,0,B

Some bad spots out there...

Got a little more rain last night. Doesn't look good for anyone trying to get out today. Their best chance is late tomorrow afternoon. Good news is we have 3 sunny days ahead and no more rain in the immediate forecast. 78,83,59, .19",B

Happens every time it rains...

Never fails out here. Someone always tries to drive my road right after a rainstorm (a little over a half inch fell early this morning). Normally I don't even offer to help because it is too muddy for me to even get to them. Fortunately, these folks were stuck in a spot that I could easily pull them out of. While we were setting up for the tow, three other vehicles came along looking to get out and I told them all the same thing - if it doesn't rain again, it will be at least a day (most likely 2 days) before the road will be passable all the way to the highway. Bad news is there is a chance of more rain tonight. 72,79,58, .66",B

woosh!

Nice cloudy morning...then some sun...a trip south to stock up then the rain pounded the Field Lab.  Got about 3/4" total over the last 5 days then almost the same amount in 40 minutes late this afternoon.  No place to put the water so I just watched it flow away.  The frogs are chirping tonight.  Good bye road.  74,94,69, .64", B
