KRTS Marfa Public Radio

It's that time of year again.  Headed to the big city of Marfa for the annual spring pledge drive for KRTS.  You can tell by the expressions on the faces which way the money went.  Honestly though, I love the programming and all the folks at our local NPR station and was happy to contribute my 5th year in a row.  Baby Ben and Carl even made it into their yearbook for last year.

Picked up a few supplies and got home in time to put together a gaudy gift from my friend Bobbie House.  I have to admit - it kinda adds some class to the ol' Airstream.

Since not much exciting is going on with my webcam these days, you might like to check out my friend Melanie Wilfong's live feed from a horned owl nest in her barn.  She is the owl whisperer....

KRTS Marfa Public Radio

My friend Rachel Osier Lindley from Marfa Public Radio asked me to stop by the station during their fall pledge drive to relate my story about them.  I made it up there today on the last day of the event.  I got a chance to spill my guts on air to my favorite classical midday host Roseland Klein.  I love her show and she is a real sweetheart.  When I first came out here to start building The Field Lab in early December 2007,  KRTS was my lifeline to news and entertainment for 3 months before I got my phone and DSL line...and to this day I still really enjoy their programming.  I dusted myself off (sort of) and came up to the station when they had their first spring pledge drive in 2008 to become a member of the station.  We have all become very good friends since then and I continue to support them.  Made the usual rounds then loaded up on supplies and brought a new chew toy home for Ben.  75,86,57,0,B,0

Michael Pollan

Great start to September.  The hens have been making quite a lot of racket during the past week and now I know why.  Went out to do my weekly hen house cleaning - found 8 eggs.  Reckon checking the hen house will be a daily chore from now on.  Way to go, girls!

Been looking forward to this event for a month now - glad I talked myself into attending tonight's presentation in Marfa with guest speaker Michael Pollan.  http://ballroommarfa.org/archive/event/marfa-dialogues-2012/  Best part was after the talk when I went up to him to introduce myself and he said he had been expecting to meet me.  Thanks Tom Michael of KRTS Marfa Public Radio for setting that up.  Had a chance to have a little chat with Mr. Pollan about The Field Lab.  I just happened to have my copy of The Omnivore's Dilemma along for him to sign.  Thanks also to my friend Luc Novovitch for catching our meeting on video and providing the screen grab.  91,100,65,0,B,0

KRTS

Cooked up 4 loaves of Field Lab Solar Oven Bread yesterday.  This morning I made my annual April pilgrimage to Marfa to drop off bread and some dough on the last day of Marfa Public Radio's spring pledge drive.  Second time FL visitor and good friend JD arrived this afternoon with new FL friend Frank.  They drove down from Denver for a little desert heat....and brought presents for me and Benita.  78,93,60,0,W

KRTS Marfa Public Radio

A bit behind schedule - the KRTS Marfa Public Radio spring pledge drive ends tonight and I have yet to renew my membership. Killed a couple of birds with one stone today...will deliver the dough to them Tuesday. Doing a supply run tomorrow and will drop off a loaf of "Benita approved" Field Lab Solar Oven Bread along with a check to the radio station.

Sussed out the parts list to complete the solar fryer today, ordered more mirrors, then just played with the longhorns. Pulled the loaf out of the oven then hit the road south for some porch time and dinner with Dr. Doug at the Starlight Theatre. Looking forward to a couple of 100+ degree days coming up. 64,86,33,0 To those new to the blog....the numbers I post are as follows: temp at 8PM, high temp of the day, low temp of the day, rainfall.
