The big city lured me when I was young
the women were gorgeous - I sure had my fun
the women were gorgeous - I sure had my fun
had the world on my plate
but it wasn’t my fate
I moved to the desert - my life’s just begun
She’s a real pretty girl
with big brown eyes
and a heart as wide
as the west Texas skies
found her out on the prairie
that was quite a surprise
My Benita...
Lots of women in my youth that I have had
some made me happy…most made me sad
aint one of them near
like the one I got here
my fortunes have turned and I sure am glad
She’s a real pretty girl
with big brown eyes
and a heart as wide
as the west Texas skiesour affections are mutual
of that I surmise
My Benita...
This here girl that I got is like no other
she’s had 15 kids, now that’s quite a mother
she sleeps most of the day
eats grass, grain , and hay
of all of my past ones this one is my druther
She’s a real pretty girl
with big brown eyes
and a heart as wide
as the west Texas skies
but in the heat of the day
she is covered with fliesMy Benita...
She pees by the gallon and poops by the pound
the queen of the desert and all that’s around
a west Texas longhorn
that moos like a car horn
hooves, fur, a long tail - the best friend that I’ve found
She’s a real pretty girl
with big brown eyes
and a heart as wide
as the west Texas skies
we are of different species
she’s 5 times my size
My Benita...
In this great wide world I have searched long and hard
found the beast in me, my reputation is marred
by those big brown eyes
and the wide Texas skies
an adopted old longhorn I call and the wide Texas skies
My Benita.

Your poetry is exquisite, Mr. Wells.
lovely ode to a lovely bovine.
Very nice poem.
How sweet.
Thank you for bringing Benita to all of us.
Not many can see the beauty of a longhorn. I think Benita is magnificent, and you captured your love for her in such a beautiful way. You're a lucky man :-)
and she's a lucky longhorn :o)
Thank you for sharing this wonderful piece of affection.
Shared your gem on my FB page .. LOVE Benita and all the joy she brings you. You are a man with excellent taste in the girls ..
JOHN!! Go to town more often..
Now that needs to be a song. Very good!
That is very cool! I was thinking, that might be a first. But I bet you're not the first cowpoke to sing a song about a cow. ;)
Well done!
I love it.
Love it
Love it
Love it!!!
I read it in the same rhythm as "The West is The Best". Just can't get enough of the Field Lab.
Great poem for an old(now) friend...Now you have Ben from her, still catching up, will see if you have penned one for him...hopefully.
