The older I get, the more I embrace positions that I once considered "way out there".
Read Mad Cowboy. Benita will like it.

I have had pet turkeys and chickens with character and once a pig that thought she was a dog..I couldn't kill them. Fish have mercury! A salad just won't fill me up though?? What to do?

Dear What do I do,

I think the secret lies in finding in yourself - the differece between being "full" and being satisfied.

One chicken satisfied , two chickens full.

I heard this author on "Fresh Air". An amazing interview. We should all think about what we're eating before we eat it. Omnivore's Delima, indeed...

I agree that raising an animal (even for meat)in an inhumane way is wrong. But please dont go all PETA on me. PETA is like a politician, you may be able to agree with them on some things but in general they are just crazy.

That's a great book. Have you read it John?

Far West Texas could use another vegetarian. Go for it! It is easy after the first few months and you'll forget what meat ever even tasted like.

I knew the heat would get to him sooner or later, but A-1 steak sauce on a cracker is pretty good!

Aw, man, I was vegan slash vegetarian until recently, crossing back and forth generally only with some thoughtfully chosen cheeses or other dairy. But a medical problem means that I can no longer eat grains of any kind (and almost everything else), so I am back to animal products. I select carefully. I am still terribly troubled.

Give me a garden salad with chicken fried steak cream gravey and mashed potatoes. The KEY to the whole thing is (MODERATION)

Dear Ginger, what kind of medical problem forces you to give up all grains? The only medical condition I know close to that is silliac (gluten intolerance) which still leaves many choices (quinoa, millet, Kasha/buckwheat, brown rice)
It would be such a shame to lose out on eating grains.

I hope your ok and healthy though.
Cheers,
