knife silver

Decided to see how much more sterling I could pull out of the knife set I had left.  Turns out that each handle has about 18 grams.  Interesting thing I found is that 3 of the 12 dinner knives had hollow handles with just some lead around the shank.  The other 9 had no lead but plaster forms throughout the handle.  Both kinds had the same amount of sterling silver and they all weighed about the same before I butchered them.  Two more small butter knives to do tomorrow for a final tally on the extra booty.  81,86,50,0,C

Interesting. I remember how shocked I was when I first saw cars being flattened at a junkyard - or when I first saw dentures. I'ts just one new horror after another bursting the bubble.

Great stuff! I like your informational blog. The images are truly antique flatware and more helpful for antique collectors. It is particularly important that when you buy an old antique, you know exactly what you want and you are certain of your preferences.
