tank wrangler...

The new hole at the east end of the greenhouse was calling to me today.  Two truckloads of sand from the old dam and I had a level pad.  Decided on relocating the 3000 gallon tank that blew about 100 yards south last year for the first catchment installation.  It was caught in a draw so I used the trusty Toyota to pull it out.  Rolled it by hand into launch position then righted it into place (again with the truck).  A bit of pushing and prodding and got the tank right where I wanted it.  Thankfully, the big dig ended up perfect for the appropriate slope for the gutter downspout.  Math and physics can be your best friends if you pay attention to them.  Good work day rewarded with a nice sunset.  68,86,43,0,B

You're lucky that you got out of NYC. The sidewalks are teeming with people. It's overcrowded, rude, dirty, expensive, bad air, no stars. Yeah, I did my time there too.

I have been backpacking Big Bend since 1984 and envious of your independence. I have truly enjoyed your blog first thing in the morning.

Thanks, Wickets :) Couldn't resist. We've got to have fun in this virtual parlor.

Further on that breathtaking sunset - it is reassuring that it is true and was not conjured by Hollywood - however praiseworthy it may be for the backdrop artist. I am almost positive i will see it one fine day with me own eyes :)

I like the sunset pic. How about a few words on the weather station. Make, cost, etc.

John, it is truly impressive what you have done, because it proves that if one man can do it alone, what the hell is wrong with our society. Why aren't we doing this and getting out of debt. The sun, the wind, the rain, are our friends. God bless you, keep the faith, keep well. You seem like a peaceful guy. If you like peaceful music, you might like what I do, and might enjoy some music and videos from my website. Continued success, good health, good luck and God bless. Tank Wrangler. I think I'm going to change my name to Tank Wrangler. It has a great macho feel to it.

Just saw the NYT article. You capture the spirit of the wild west and put a new eco, peaceful spin on it. I have some friends who are doing a similar thing out in Cascabel, Arizona. I have blogged about them out there, including my disastrous Thanksgiving poo on the composting toilet:

Enjoy and keep up the good work. Say hello to Benita.

The local newspaper (Fort Worth Star-Telegram) ran a story on the field lab and I gotta say, I'm pretty excited at the notion of what you're doing. I've only been following your efforts for a short time, but I'm 'bout ready to be a like-minded neighbor. Of course, my wife does not share the vision, so I will have to follow your progress from here. Keep up the good work!
