park'n'walk
Shot down to Study Butte for some last minute supplies late this morning. Dilly dallied down there about 10 minutes too long. As I was heading back north on 118, I saw rain falling on the vortex. Made it a mile out and parked it off the road just before the bad wash since I was starting to slide all over the place. I might have made it all the way but I have gone 5 1/2 years without getting stuck in the mud out here and didn't want to spoil my record today and end up blocking the road or rutting it out. The mile and a half walk was rather refreshing but kinda muddy. Drizzle most of the afternoon with more rain expected overnight and through Saturday. Balance of the ingot orders won't ship till Tuesday. 68,89,74,.35",B,.24

i was chattin' on the phone too long and thought i'd check in before bedtime....oh no! any idea when you'll be able to get the truck home? good news is you got rain...and thankfully it wasn't any worse. Dang, i can hear the sound of those tires on the road slinging the mud off underneath. good luck.
I don't need the truck here because I am stocked up on supplies for a month and it is in a better position to get out if I need to drive somewhere because that first mile of road from the highway dries out before the rest.
If you need any help, call us, 2135.
4x4 would have sunk on both axels....have you been there?
sorry...didn't mean "both" axels....i meant, you'd be up to your ears in mud and hoping Mr. Cain could pull your 4x4 out.
Psalm Chapter 40
1I waited patiently for the Lord;
he turned to me and heard my cry.
2He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock
and gave me a firm place to stand.
3He put a new song in my mouth,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear the Lord
and put their trust in him.
Speaking from experience, 4X4 will just take you farther into the bad stuff before you get stuck. The winch (good thing you have one John) and high ground clearance are your two best friends. Someone else in an equally capable 4X4 following you with similar equipment and skills is your next best friend.
I had a buddy with an old Dodge Military 4X4 ambulance (WWII era) with the winch on each end. When he bogged down, he had heavy cargo slings he would wrap around an anchor point, in bare sand or gravel he would bury his spare tire and use it for an anchor.
Point well taken - but the point here is: stay off the road when it's wet to avoid tearing it up.
Hello John trying to locate you on Google could not find Thanks

John, if you were replying to my comments: I wasn't giving you 4X4 advice, I am of the same opinion on roads. Once you tear the road up it is hard to fix and makes travel for yourself and others difficult and possibly hazardous. The ruts a 4X4 can make hidden under water can stick two wheel drives and less capable 4X4's too.
4X4 in my humble opinion is for emergencies or for fun where the fun does not disrupt others travel lanes. Hope this clears up my comments.
